High School Information
For a general diploma, the student must pass 25 Carnegie units, including the following:
- English: 4 units
- Mathematics: 4 units (a minimum of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and Algebra III/
Trig) - Social Studies: 4 units
- Science: 4 units
- World Language: 2 units (at least two consecutive years of the same language
is required) - Physical Education: 1 unit
- Technology: 1 unit
- Fine Arts: 1 unit
- Electives: 4 units
Three levels of Honors Diplomas are available, requiring the following grade point averages (GPA): Cum Laude, 3.8 GPA; Magna Cum Laude, 3.9 GPA; and Summa Cum Laude, 4.0 GPA.
To earn an Honors Diploma, students must also meet the following requirements in addition to those for the General Diploma:
- Pass two additional Carnegie units
- Earn a minimum GPA of 3.8
- The student must complete six elective credits, one of which must be the third year of the same world language
- The student must receive high school credit for a minimum of four of the following science courses: Physical Science,
Honors Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, or AP Physics - Complete six semesters of Advanced Placement courses in at least two subject areas
- Complete four semesters at Saint James School and satisfy all other requirements (transfer students only)
- Complete eight hours of approved, documented volunteer service for each year of attendance at Saint James in grades nine through twelve
